chinese foodYou’re at home in Liberty Village, it’s 8pm on a Thursday night and there’s nothing – absolutely nothing – that you want more than a “healthy” dose of Chinese food. Whether it be noodle dishes, chicken balls, Lo Mein, Chow Mein or General Tso chicken. What are you going to do? Where are you going to go? Who are you going to call?

Here are some of our suggestions:

Pepper Ring Asian Cuisine (171 East Liberty Street, Unit 153 (416) 531-1888)

UPDATE**Pepper Ring is now (12/2013) The Thai Room and features a mostly Thai and Malaysian menu**

One of the few options that is in Liberty Village proper, Pepper Ring is a friendly and consistently decent Asian fusion restaurant that has a huge menu that offers some of the most popular Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese options.  Always a popular lunch spot due to its $10 lunch special. As mentioned, the menu is huge and will appeal to those looking for a quick Pho, Pad Thai and General Tso fix. Quite a few vegetarian options as well. A good choice if you’re looking to stay local.

Bamboo Buddha (725 King Street W. (416) 504-9311)

Not in Liberty Village but pretty close, Bamboo Buddha can be found over at King and Tecumseth and offers a menu of Chinese classics including Chop Suey, Egg Foo Young, chicken balls, Lo Mein, fried rice and lots of veggie options. Always consistent and good value, the best thing about Bamboo Buddha is that they deliver! Have a look at their menu here.

Panda Chef (1512 Queen St W. (416) 532-2877)

Another popular choice in near-by Parkdale, Panda Chef is open late (2am) and delivers as well. They offer a large menu of chinese food2Chinese favourites and can be counted on when the late-night urges appear. You can see their menu here.

Chinatown (south of College, north of Queen on Spadina Ave)

This is more of an honorable mention because it’s really not that close (or that far, for that matter) from Liberty Village, Chinatown is bursting with good Chinese food options. Some of our favourites are King’s Noodle, Goldstone, New Ho King, Rol San and New Sky and Asian Legend. Most do not deliver so you will just have to make the trek there. Many of these restaurants are open late and are the most authentic Chinese restaurants on this side of Markham/Richmond Hill (where the real-deal is to be found).

We were always pleased with Pepper Ring and I hope their new Thai / Malay direction is as good.

Rice & Noodle over in Parkdale (Queen & Lansdowne) is cheap and fast for both delivery and takeout.
