After the first Movie Night in Liberty Village Park was postponed due to rain on June 20TH, some spirits were dampened from the uneventful start to the season. Though Star Wars: Rogue One was on the itinerary for Movie Night in June, there’s no need to worry as the Star Wars screening has been postponed until September.
There’s no need to wait until then however for Movie Night in Liberty Village Park as there is a planned screening of Beauty and the Beast for Friday, July 21ST. This remake now turned into a live-action musical romantic fantasy features the talents of Emma Watson and Dan Stevens among a stellar cast. Beauty and the Beast has grossed over $1.2 billion making it the highest grossing film of 2017. Come down on July 21ST for what’s no doubt to be a very joyous sing-along. The fact that the event is entirely FREE means that there is no reason not to come down and check it out!
Then, coming up on Friday, August 25TH, the free Movie in the Park will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Featuring an all-star cast including Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, come out and get to know the neighborhood a bit better. Throughout the past six years, Movie in the Park has been increasingly popular with working professionals looking for an inexpensive way to spend a night out. These type of evening events also make for a fun date night. Then, take the opportunity after the movie is done to explore Liberty Village. There’s plenty of local businesses, bars, and restaurants that are going to be ready to welcome in guests with open arms, after the showing has concluded. Though the exact start times tend to vary, generally Movie Night in Liberty Village begins shortly after 8 PM and is wrapped up by about 11 PM.
All of this is made possible from the efforts of the Liberty Village Residents Association (LVRA), an organization that has made it their mission to create events whereby neighbours can connect and to keep Liberty Village as a resident-friendly thriving neighborhood that is more than just a collection of condo buildings. Similar to the Liberty Village Business Association (LVBA), the LVRA was designed to give residents a voice in helping to plan and shape their community.
As it relates to Movie Night in Liberty Village, this year, the LVRA has partnered with more than twenty-eight Liberty Village businesses, who have come together to provide support and contribute to the free night out. These businesses include, but are not limited to, the Golden Apple Confectionary, Liberty Commons, 3 Brasseurs, LOCAL, Mildred’s Temple Kitchen, Brazen Head, Ciao Europa Café, Forever Young Organic Scrubs, Suzanne Gardner Flowers, Williams Landing, Balzac’s, Metro, freshii, nanoPay Corporation, LV Clean Co., Kibo Sushi House, Bespoke Butchers, Home Hardware, Maizal, Ono Poke Bar, Global Pet Foods, Booster Juice, and others. Many of these businesses have contributed items to the giveaways scheduled for each of these Fridays throughout the season.
Free outdoor movies in Toronto are a major trend that seems to be everywhere in the City this summer. Being able to catch a flick under the stars at Liberty Village Park is a huge luxury in the neighborhood. As nice as it is to stay at home and curl up on the couch to binge a TV show or watch a movie, nothing matches the experience of sharing a movie among friends in a bigger setting. When the weather’s nice and the sun is setting, there’s no reason to stay inside. Skip the lines and the ticket prices, grab a friend, and come on out!
