Liberty Village Toronto | Your Online Neighbourhood Guide

The Blog

Just like the title of the popular song, “Take Me to Church” by Hozier, consider attending the next service at the Liberty Grace Church on Sunday at 4pm. Liberty Village is very fortunate to have almost every amenity at our fingertips without having to leave our neighborhood.

A Modern Day Approach

Many churches or places of worship often remain stagnant and lost in previous decades and times. This often causes many places to unfortunately close or amalgamate with others due to lack of funding or attendance. Liberty Grace has adopted and embraced many current day technological trends and efficiencies making them very relatable to its audience and regular attendees. Instead of a historical organ, a band is set up with a keyboard, drum and guitar. Understanding the demographic of Liberty Village and how many people value their Sundays, the weekly service starts at 4pm rather than the historical morning time. And come in your jeans and Converse as formal attire is not necessary.

Keeping with the social media times,  Liberty Grace Church are very active on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Pastor Darryl Dash is an avid blog writer and brings real life case studies and stories happening throughout the world, and Liberty Village for that matter. Mini series on unique topics are held. Most recently, they have been discussing why “God Loves Sex”.

The words kind, generous, funny, modern, empathetic and hip all describe Darryl Dash. He is a current resident of Liberty Village and founded the Liberty Grace Church in September of 2013.

He knew from a young age that he was going to be pastor. This profession runs in his family as his uncle was also a pastor. Darryl went to University of Waterloo, Heritage Seminary for an undergraduate degree. After graduating, he attended the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts and obtained a doctorate of Ministry.

At the age of 22, Darryl met his lovely wife Charlene and together they have 2 children. Darryl likes to dine at all of the Liberty Village restaurants and take in the odd sporting game when he can like a Toronto FC or Toronto Blue Jays game.

All Are Welcome

Don’t be scared. It is easy to have the misconception that by going to church, one will be swayed into a specific religious faith. All are safe at Liberty Grace Church regardless of religion or sexual orientation. The church officially is considered a Christian Baptist denomination but It has an open door policy. Visitors are greeted with open arms by Darryl himself, accompanied by his lovely wife Charlene. If it is your first time attending, other guests warmly approach new guests with smiles and gratitude. And if you are a returning guest, you will always feel at home at Liberty Grace Church.

Liberty Grace is a great community member. They often have neighborhood barbeques, pancake breakfasts and various socials. Most recently, they have placed two Little Free Libraries, located outside the church at 25 Liberty St and at Liberty Village Park.   Feel free to drop by and say hello to them whenever the doors are open or at the next Sunday service.
