The Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research has become a big event for the Liberty Village community. Majority of us either know someone or have had a friend or family member battle cancer. The Liberty Village Terry Fox Run is a celebration of a fighting spirit of Torontonians across the city and the event’s organizers are currently searching for volunteers to help out on the big day.
Scheduled for Sunday September 16 2018 at Liberty Village Park, the event will run from 9:30 in the morning to about 1:00 in the afternoon. An inclusive event for every Toronto family, the Terry Fox Run has several different options for runners. There’s of course the 10 km run for those serious about running across the streets of the city. There’s also a 5 km option and then, a very cute family and dog 3 km walk. Pre-event festivities have been teased but not revealed as of yet.
The ultimate goal of the Liberty Village Terry Fox Run is to reach a fundraising goal of $50,000. Some have already contributed, including See & Be Seen Eyecare which has pledged to match up to 10 percent of the total funds raised. So many of our own Liberty Village small business community have also made contributions this year or in years past including Williams Landing, Freshii, Panago Pizza, the Golden Apple Confectionery, Locus 144, Suzanne Gardner Flowers, Roland Music, Paramount, City Market, School Restaurant, and Liberty Life Yoga.
In past years, the Liberty Village Terry Fox Run has been a great community building event. Community residents from all walks of life have brought their families and pets, meeting their neighbours and having an all-around good time. If you’re in the area on Sunday, September 16, the run is definitely worth a visit. The Liberty Village Cares organization deserves a big thanks for all the work they’ve done to continue bringing the neighborhood together for good causes like this one.
As mentioned, volunteers are currently being sought for both the day of the event to help in ensuring things run smoothly and also, to help in marketing the Liberty Village Terry Fox Run. If you are experienced in marketing or are a marketing student, this might be a great way to get in some volunteer hours right here in the community.
