The end of summer is more than just a gentle slide into fall. Regular visitors to the Liberty Village Farmer’s Market are able to observe the changing of the season from summer to fall and to end of the harvest season every Sunday from early June to Oct 21, 2012.

That’s right! Oct 21 is next Sunday – the very last Sunday for 2012 for you to experience the Liberty Village Farmers’ Market! If you haven’t stocked up on your savoury vegetables and root vegetables, wildflower honey, gourds and pumpkins, ripe apples and pears, fresh greens and organic meats, to name but a few of the delectable items on offer, then it’s time to mark the time and date in your calendar to go between 9am to 2pm, rain or shine, for this healthy and bounteous shopping excursion.

As a regular observer of the market, October is really the time of year when the substantial crops pour forth in abundance. I am talking about the root vegetables such as the potatoes and carrots, and turnips, radishes, onions and others which keep their consistency through the cold winter and spring months all the way through next summer. And the fresh apples which are just as crisp in January and February as they are now, and the crunchy pears rich in sugar that when you leave them out in room temperature they will melt within a few days of being picked, yet when they are canned and preserved provide their energy through many seasons to come.

October at the market is about those crops which have been maturing over the summer, and which are the least perishable and provide the most energy and most sustenance throughout the rest of the year that you will find at the market now.

This season of fall is exciting from the culinary and produce point of view because it’s the season that is the most hearty, the least ephemeral and the most energetic and flavourful and colourful. If you are in the Liberty Village Neighbourhood, then this it can be all had right at your doorstep. As someone who is there every Sunday, We can say We would not want to miss it. Next Sunday is your final chance in Liberty Village!
