February 14th marks the annual international day of love, otherwise known as Valentine’s Day. According to nytimes.com, theories on the origins of Valentine’s Day date back to Roman Empire times. Considered a celebration for the festival of Lupercalia, men and women would pair up to procreate. Over many centuries, it has evolved into a day where people proclaim and showcase their love for one another. Whether it be a romantic night with your partner, a Valentines evening out, or perhaps a self-love type of day, there are lots of ways to celebrate here in Liberty Village.
Commemorating in a Romantic Way
Jewellery is always a wonderful way to show someone you care about them. Many people love receiving a new sparkler or something shiny. Visit Carnaby Bespoke Jewellery at 171 E Liberty St for an amazing selection of bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. They are open weekdays until 6:30pm.
Treatments ranging in length of 60, 75, or 90 minutes, Liberty Massage Boutique offers, “two massage therapy treatments performed side-by-side. Bonds between friends and loved ones are fortified while therapists work to relax tension in muscle tissue,” notes their website. This is a great way to unwind and connect with that special someone. Find Liberty Massage Boutique at 15 Atlantic Ave, open 7 days a week.
Caffino Ristorante is a hidden gem within Liberty Village but they are experts in love. Hosting many weddings throughout the year, having fabulous food and a cozy yet charming atmosphere, this spot should be on everyone’s radar. Serving authentic and traditional Italian cuisine, it surely won’t disappoint. Visit them at 1185 King St W.
Wander over to Suzanne Gardner Flowers and be blown away by the bright colors and sweet smell of florals. Having been a Liberty Village staple for over 20 years, they make arrangements big and small. Pick up a pre-made bouquet to give to your loved one this Valentines Day. They are located at 171 E Liberty St and are open 7 days a week.
Say it With Sweets
For others, Valentine’s Day is shown by sweet treats. Two Liberty Village businesses that specialize in this are Mad Batter Bakers and For the Love of Cake.
Genevieve, Adam and their team can capture every vision into a cake. And their takeaway cupcakes are scrumptious, in either the regular or junior size. Find For the Love of Cake at the Liberty Market Building.
Another delectable way to show love is with a cookie or two from Mad Batter Bakers. Having called Liberty Village home for over 20 years, they have been baking up a storm. They have some adorable cookies and are ready for customers to grab and go a few Valentine’s Day designs. Visit them at 135 Jefferson Ave.
Get Active
Romantic dinners, jewellery and sweets are not for everyone. Try doing an activity with your Valentine. It may be more unconventional but spending time with that special someone can be priceless. Sweat it out during a yoga class at Pure Yoga. Try one of their Pure Beats classes where movement is paired with some great upbeat tunes. Find them at 47 Fraser Ave.
Or how about being a little more adventurous and scaling some walls while rock climbing at Joe Rock Heads? Adaptable to different skill levels, they offer many classes. They are located at 29 Fraser Ave.
If going back in time for a couple of hours sounds like fun, head on over to Medieval Times dinner and tournament. Eat with your hands and cheer on your team’s knight through a series of jousting competitions. They are located at 10 Dufferin St.
However you choose to celebrate this Valentine’s Day, we hope it is fantastic!
