You always hear about all these graphic design, media, TV, and film companies working in Liberty Village and yet, we never see them. A lot of the creative types living and/or working here do so behind closed doors. You don’t often get the chance to see all the amazing work being done right here in our own neighborhood.

For example, did you know some of the special effects seen in media such as John Wick, the Suicide Squad, and Game of Thrones are completed in our very own Liberty Village – that’s what happens behind closed doors at Spin VFX.

Spin VFX has been a long-time resident of Liberty Village, first established in 1987 as a “creative and technically dedicated visual effects studio producing captivating imagery for feature films and television.” Since opening, they’ve worked on literally hundreds of different media, completing visualizations, 3D animations, CGI effects, environment mapping, and compositing. Some of their greatest and award-winning is on films like The Shallows, the Suicide Squad, Spotlight, John Wick, Dolphin Tale 2, All is Lost, After Earth, Resident Evil: Retribution, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Down parts 1 and 2, and Titanic.

Currently, Spin VFX is overseen by President and Executive Producer, Neishaw Ali. Ali manages a team including Executive Producer George Macri, Supervising Visual Effects Producer Carrie Richardson, and Senior Visual Effects Producer Robin Trickett. Some of Spin VFX’s more recent work includes Netflix series, The Haunting of Hill House and The Umbrella Academy which was filmed in Toronto predominantly in and around Queen West, just north of Liberty Village. Some of the other media Spin VFX’s fingerprints includes The First Purge, George R. R. Martin’s Nightflyers, CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery, CBC’s Alias Grace, FX’s Fargo, and the Toronto-shot Flatliners.

Spin VFX is one of Toronto’s most accomplished post-production studios and continues to produce outstanding work, including a lot of their absolute best within the past few years. As Spin VFX continues to stun with their creative work, we value having them so close to Liberty Village.

As a representation of the community’s creative spirit, the roots of the company are firmly embedded in Liberty Village’s history. Spin VFX remains one of the few creative businesses that have been able to sustain the many changes that have occurred in Liberty Village. Spin VFX is located at 901 King Street West.
