Liberty Village Toronto | Your Online Neighbourhood Guide

The Blog

Many unique and exciting changes are happening in our neighbourhood. The area is deep rooted with some amazing history, dating back to the 1800s. The building located at 60 Atlantic will be getting a redevelopment which includes expanding the premise north to 80 Atlantic Ave. It will also create a new hub at the address of 42 Liberty Street, also known as Liberty Commons at Big Rock Brewery. Big Rock Brewery will be calling this space home alongside restaurant group Oliver and Bonacini.

There is a new place to meet, and that is at Liberty Commons, located at 42 Liberty St. Photo taken by Meg Marshall.

History of 60 Atlantic Ave

According to the City of Toronto, this building was built in 1899 and belonged to the St. David’s Wine Growers Company. Toronto architect F.H. Herbert has deemed the design of the building as Edward Classicism. In 2006, the city considered this property a Heritage Property. Current owners, Hullmark Developments are being extremely diligent to preserve the history, beauty and architecture of the building.

Hurray! After a long anticipated wait, the incredible Big Rock Brewery Tasting Room is now open. We were teased with a couple of pop-up events that occurred previously  in the neighborhood and were introduced to the brand and beverage. Big Rock is an Alberta based brewery, now embarking on their first Beer Shop in Ontario, right in the heart of Liberty Village. The brewing team is lead by Ontario Brewmaster Connor K. Patrick and brewer Dan Ellis. They brew utilizing local ingredients and innovative processes.

The Beer Shop will have 8 taps, featuring signature beers, seasonal offerings, and plenty of rotating experimental brews (made in-house). Everyone is welcome to come into the amazing space to enjoy a pint with the added bonus of being able to fill a growler and some fresh beer home too.

Visit the Beer Shop at Liberty Commons from 2pm-9pm daily. Follow Big Rock Brewery on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Stay tuned for the Big Rock Brew Pub with Oliver and Bonacini opening in early 2017.
